Kuih Gunting

Kuih Gunting = kuih siput = pagoda (?)

Macam macam nama pernah dengar orang panggil dia ni. Kuih siput, pagoda (why pagoda?) & kuih gunting. I call it kuih gunting because i gunting it small.

Ingredient:

500 gm tepung gandum (*)
8 tangkai daun kari, tumbuk halus (*)
2 camca besar udang kering, tumbuk halus (*)
1 biji telur
1 sudu besar serbuk lada hitam (*)
1 cawan air
1 1/2 camca teh garam (*)

Method:

  • - Campur semua bahan kering (*)
  • - Buat lubang di tengah & pecahkan telur
  • - Tuang air sedikit sedikit sambil uli campuran tadi.
  • - Uli sampai tepung tidak melekat pada tangan.
Sampai sini, do as you like, no rules attach;
You boleh;

1. Canai nipis (~0.5cm), potong agak2 1.5 cm lebar dan gunting. atau
2. Cubit seketul tepung tu dan gunting kecil kecil
3. Kalau ada acuan kuih siput, silalah siputkan dia.

Foot note:
  • -Bahan bahan may vary, ada yang letak cili, butter/shortening nak bagi gebu etc.
  • -This one is crunchy, not so gebu tapi tak sampai serpih gigi or luka gusi.
  • -The difference her is in the curry leaves and black pepper

Leng Chee Kang

Leng Chee Kang

Just want to share what i did today...other than the normal cooking lah.

My version of Leng Chee Kang is quite simple. All i do is visit a chinese herbal/drug store & tell him/her you want to buy stuff for leng chee kang. He can suggest or you can tell what you want.

basic items

Refer photo above, clockwise from top left:
1. Lotus seed, dried longan, almond-like nuts & lo-han-ko (the dark greenish round fruit;wash and just crack the skin a little bit)
2. White fungus, soak in water for about 1 hour.
3. Sugared winter melon (halwa/gula kundur)
4. Honey comb sugar (or rock sugar)- add last before serving

Boil everything except honey comb sugar. I use my rice cooker, set to 2 hours , close lid and leave to boil.

Sugared winter melon actually provides sweetness to the leng chee kang; i don't add sugar into mine, however you can add honeycomb sugar if you like- it dissolves in the hot leng chee kang.

Enjoy

Puding Cendol

Puding Cendol

Dah lama juga tak dak n3 makan ni ye. Okay che puan & che tuan, i tried this one yesterday.

It was good, but as usual, i always do mine with less sugar( i only use 2/3 of the sugar measurement & i also did not include the egg yolk), itu pun masih terasa manisnya.

The Chot Story

susah nak ambil gambar, tak duduk diam

Chot intro:

He weighed 340 grams when we first brought him home....cute but not manja. He had company earlier but his companion, Cheit and Chein died after just two weeks and one week @ hom respectively. We decided not to get him company again & he lives happily ever after......

Visit to vet:

Not a regular visitor; only take him if i notice something not right.

1st time - few days at home, he had 'dirty' bottom - we changed his food. Since then he will not eat other than that one brand - waaahhhh chot very demanding, tak padan ngan tak boleh cakap!

2nd time - i saw him jumping suddenly which made me think he felt itchy. True enough, he had 'nits', doc says 'parasite'. He was given injection once weekly for 7 weeks (until thre's no parasite seen under microscope). Sekali jab RM20/-

3rd time - About a month's back. He had so much bulu that it 'clumps' at few parts of the body esp his under. I know he had tail, but i don't see that anymore. I did cut away those on top but dare not touch the bottom as i' was not sure which is what (clumps, flesh or his "tuuuuut") Doctor helped remove the clumps and i requested his help to trim the thick bulu down there. We did that in two days; we stopped when he showed sign of agitation. For that i paid RM70 in total.

Life at home:

Having him at home is just like having another baby (not as delicate as actual baby care). I bathe him weekly, makes sure he has enough food & water, clean his cage twice daily, comb him, trim his bulu.....

one of his favorite spots - under this marble coffee table;
 cool i think

Well well, since we had him, our home was never the same again. No more tower lamp & water fountain & aquarium...all because he spoilt the cables...

Di suatu pagi yang hening......lepas subuh, ingat nak turun bawah le.....

OPOCOT!!! pehal si Chot ni tercongok kat pintu bilik? Laaaa, macam mana dia ada kat atas?

It never cross my mind that rabbit can climb stairs..not one, not two but 19 flight of stairs!
As it always has been, we let him out of the cage at night, so he'll be free within the living hall (living hall pun sekangkang kera je).

And almost every night, without fail,  he will see us to the stairs..as if to say good night lah and watched us climb up the stairs....rupa rupanya dok belajar!

We don't have small kids anymore, so we have to make do with whatever is available to prevent him climbing up the stairs!

and this is it! - a 'make-do' pagar

Chot, You want to go to dentist?

I wouldn't mind having him upstairs but i do mind if the treadmill, massage chair and internet cables gone kaput.

Hanya satu solution: Chot boleh naik atas kalau semua giginya di cabut. Any vet-dentist can help me out there?

Chot: then at ~ 340gms

Chot: now at 1.7 kg

Patchwork with a touch of leather

Remember my half-done bag project? And remember my entry about my MIL got admitted?

Well, while juggling going to hospital and back home, I also made time to complete my project. Though I tried to do it myself, cikgu still help my last bit, ie handle installation as i couldn't make it at that time.

And I am proud of the finish product;

finalizing bits and pieces

this handle was done from scratch....by cikgu

the finished products...of two happy owners.
Similar but not identical

You rock! Thank you CIKGU

To complement the above, we get to 'hands-on' a gift box each.

Thank you Hanim for willingly coming over to the house, considering the limited time that i can spend outside the house at the moment and thanks Noraini for the company.
I have to consider separating my sewing into BAGS and QUILT (bedspread/pot holder/table runner & such) as i have to consider finishing my 'unfinished' quilt.

get well soon

This week is basically a commute-to-hospital week.

Mother-in-law was warded few days ago (and still is) due to a slight medical complication.

Bila dah jatuh cinta......

He he good morning, tak jatuh cinta kat manusia, cinta makcik hanya pada pakcik.

You always have to do something, so that you remain alert....

your brain imagining,
your hand working,
your teeth clenching,
your mouth watering,
your feet thumping,
your eyes rolling.....
you heart?? ohhh i want i want i want

Kita orang (my friend & I) dah TERtengok (ter = tak sengaja) something and dah TERjatuh cinta (ter = cari bala)........

We saw her carry this bag & fallen in love-head over heels!
Mintak beli tapi katanya "pengeluarannya dah ditamatkan" dah sudah...abih camno?

Pujuk punya pujuk, she agreed to teach us...yeaaaaa.

My lounge was transformed into a workshop one morning...

Mula mula buat 'template'

eeehhhh buat apa tu? Pilates?

the "workshop"

The teacher (in white skirt) & the student (sorang lagi dok blakang camera)

Note:
You see the bag beside cikgu? That's the bag yang buat air liur meleleh.
And you see the many materials on the background- that gave us a hard
time in the process.

Cikgu kata; arrange the materials first and visualize.....

Hmmmmm...dok visualize lah ni...

ada serupa visual?

banyaknya leather untuk satu bag...
hmm lembu tengok pun marah kot (kalau guna kulit dialah)

The finish product?? Tak ada lagi sebab masih dalam proses pembuatan.

Nanti bila dah siap, makcik letak sini okay.

Nasi Goreng Kunyit

Hubby had dinner outside & with son1's agreement we had this simple & sedap dinner.

nasi goreng kunyit, fried chicken & broccoli salad.

Simple and sedap, so i would like to share this simplicity.

Fried Chicken
Few small pieces of chicken, marinate with turmeric, salt and black pepper.
Cooking method: Deep fry. (Reserve about 3 tablespoon oil for fried rice)

Fried Rice
2 cups cooked rice (for 2 persons).
3 clove garlic
5 cili padi
1 stalk lemon grass, cut to smaller pieces
1 big onion -slice
salt

Method:
Pound garlic, cili padi & lemon grass.(**)
Using oil from frying chicken earlier, saute (**) and onions.
Add in rice and mix well. Add salt to taste. Done.

Broccoli Salad
1 broccoli, break into florets & boil in salted water
Transfer to cold water (this will retain the green colour &'crunchiness')
Whatever you have in fridge; carrot, capsicum, celery, apples all cut to bite sizes.
Put all in bowl, stir in mayonnaise and a dash of pepper. Keep in fridge until ready to eat.

- Happy Trying -
(sorry if you find my entry  like 'i'm -in-a-hurry'. yes, i'm actually sleepy...yawn yawn) Good nite.
